Tharaka University  is an institution of higher learning located in Tharaka South Sub-County, in Tharaka Nithi County, Near Gatunga Town. The University  was initially established as a Campus of Chuka University in September 2015. The Campus was established to give the people within the region, Kenya and beyond access to quality and affordable University education.

The Campus was elevated to the status of a University College through Legal Gazette Notice No. 146 of 10th July, 2017 after approval by His Excellence President Uhuru Kenyatta and then Charterd as full fledged University on 4th August 2022.  Since inception, Tharaka University  has continued to enjoy unprecedented growth in student and staff population, as well as academic and research activities. Tharaka University endeavors to be a centre of excellence and a leading institution in matters pertaining to dryland farming, mining and other areas of national and international strategic focus.

Tharaka University is located in a serene environment suitable for learning.  Our students not only enjoy quality education but also an opportunity to enjoy the serene environment in the University and environs.
